US Virgin Islands

The US Virgin Islands are a slice of the Caribbean that feels distinctly American — English is the lingua franca, the currency is the dollar, and you don't need a passport if you're a U.S. citizen. But beyond the familiar comforts lie three dramatically different islands: bustling, historic St. Thomas; lush, laid-back St. John with its vast national park; and rugged, less-touristed St. Croix, where sugar mill ruins and Danish colonial architecture tell a deeper story. It's a place where you can snorkel world-class coral reefs in the morning and sip Cruzan rum at a beach bar by afternoon, without ever feeling like you're in a resort bubble.
