SageRooms Global Trip Difficulty Index

How difficult is your next destination?

Not every trip is equally easy to plan. The SageRooms Global Trip Difficulty Index compares destinations using the practical challenges independent travellers are likely to encounter — from arriving at the airport and navigating public transport to language barriers, payment convenience, entry requirements and choosing where to stay.

Each destination receives an overall Trip Difficulty Score from 1.0 to 10.0, calculated from seven travel-friction dimensions. Lower scores indicate easier destinations. Higher scores indicate destinations that generally require more preparation or planning.

Use the index below to compare destinations, discover places that are easier for independent travel, or explore which aspects of a particular destination may require additional planning.

How the SageRooms Trip Difficulty Index Works

This index measures travel-planning friction — not whether a destination is good or bad. A higher score never implies a destination is undesirable, only that independent travel there typically requires more preparation. Each destination’s overall score is a weighted average of the seven dimensions below, computed automatically from the same assessment shown on that destination’s own guide page — never a separately maintained figure.

Limitations

 • Travel experience is subjective — two travellers can experience the same destination differently.
 • Conditions change; an assessment reflects a point in time, not a permanent state.
 • Visa and entry requirements depend on nationality — one score cannot describe every passport holder.
 • Accessibility needs vary and aren’t fully captured by these seven dimensions.
 • Safety and logistical conditions can shift with little notice.
 • This index is a planning aid, not an absolute judgement of any destination.
